The argument that
comes up time and time again is referred to as the mystical dimension of
Christianity and its appeal to human experience as opposed to dogmatic
authority of doctrine. I being one that
lands on the mystical end of life tend to favor the appeal to human experience
in my life with God. I see it as the
life that God created for me to live from the beginning of time, before
dogmatic doctrine even came into being through human beings. To me God isn’t about Religion. He is all about Relationship; Father to child
and friend to friend.
He certainly
teaches me and guides me in His Way, but not by filling my brain with doctrine
and rules. He enlightens me by
illuminating my heart and stirring up my spirit. When Jesus was born into this world he came
to be with human beings, among human beings, to reveal God’s Way, Truth, and
Life in His Kingdom to everyone here on earth.
He healed the blind to provide new eyes to see; he healed the deaf to
provide new ears to hear. His mission
was all about reconciling humanity to God, redeeming and restoring the
relationship with Him that was created in the beginning.
By its very nature
this relationship is mystical because He is God and His thoughts and ways are
much higher than any human’s thoughts and ways.
It is sinfully arrogant to believe that human beings can figure God out,
can comprehend Him, and explain Him to others.
That is God’s job.
God speaks clearly
to those who receive and believe in Him with all their heart, mind, and soul. God speaks clearly to those who have open
eyes to see and open ears to hear. God
speaks clearly to those who love, fear, and worship Him for all He is and all
He does. God speaks clearly to those who
are in covenant relationship with Him. It has every thing to do with human
experience.
It is all mystical
and incomprehensible because He is God.
But those who have entered into this relationship totally “get it” and
live their lives in light of it.
