I think of the
many hours I have spent
Sitting on the
beach just looking out on the horizon.
I am not thinking
about anything; simply looking,
No, staring out
over the waves, watching and waiting for something.
It is a spiritual
thing
That somehow
refreshes my soul every time I do it.
This has been an
activity I have done since I was a child.
I know something
is coming, someday, sometime.
When I listen to
Annie Lennox sing the song Into the West,
I feel that same
waiting:
“What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea
A Pale moon rises
The ships have come to carry you home.
A light on the water
Grey ships pass
Into the West.”
I don’t know what
or who I am watching and waiting for,
But I do it almost
as a religious practice or ritual.
It is a connection
of some kind to God.
All I know is, I
like the feeling of being completely empty,
Completely at
rest, and simply watching and waiting
For the One I know
will come someday over that horizon;
The One who will
come and carry me Home.
