IT’S NOT ABOUT ME
“I cry out to God Most High, to God who
fulfills His purpose for me.”
Psalm 57:2
I look back over
my life and see how many times I got things backwards. I worked hard at figuring out who I was and
what I wanted to do to serve God. I
looked at my strengths and weaknesses, studied the spiritual gifts to figure
out which were mine, and listened to many people tell me what I should to find
and fulfill God’s purpose for my life.
I wore myself out
many times and learned to withdraw into Retreats to rest and refocus. Then I would come back and start again at all
the same things, only to wear myself out again.
Finally I stopped and realized that the rat race mentality of the world
was similar to what I was doing. That
didn’t seem right to me. The busy for
God…fulfilling my call mentality isn’t what it is all about. According to the above scripture it is
getting things backwards. God fulfills
His purpose in me, not the other way around.
Jesus never seemed
hurried; he never had that “I’m so busy” look about him. He didn’t spent time, energy, and money
trying to find himself and his call, his purpose in life. He simply was who he was and moved in unison
with His Father’s will, thus allowing God to fulfill His purpose in him. It wasn’t about him. It was about reflecting his Father. Now I get it, and it works for me.
